How to Install TickMU
TickMU is free to play. The full client is about 1 GB and you only download it once. After that, the TickMU Launcher installs every patch for you automatically.
- Create an accountRegister for free on the registration page. You use the same username and password in the launcher, in the game and on this website.
- Download the clientChoose Mega or Dropbox above. Both mirrors host the same full client, so pick whichever is faster for you.
- Extract the filesUnpack the archive with WinRAR or 7-Zip into a folder such as
C:\Games\TickMU. AvoidProgram Files: Windows can block the launcher from updating files there. - Run the launcherOpen
Launcher.exein the game folder and let it finish downloading the latest update before you play. - Log in and playSign in with your account, choose a server, create your character and step onto the Continent of MU.

Installation FAQ
Is TickMU really free?
Yes. The client, the launcher and the game are free to play. VIP and the Web Shop are optional extras that support the server.
The game closes as soon as I start it. What do I do?
This is usually Windows Data Execution Prevention (DEP) blocking main.exe. Follow the DEP crash fix guide to add the game to the exception list, then restart your PC. Make sure Windows Update and your graphics drivers are up to date too.
My antivirus deleted or blocked a game file.
The client's anti-cheat protection can trigger false alarms in some antivirus programs. Add only your TickMU game folder as an exclusion (never turn your antivirus off), then run the launcher again so it can restore the missing file. Only ever download the client from the links on this page.
Do I need to download the full client again after an update?
No. Always start the game through Launcher.exe. It downloads only the files that changed, so you stay on the latest version without reinstalling.
I have lag or high ping. Can I improve it?
Play on a wired connection if you can and close downloads running in the background. The Anti-Lag (TCP Optimizer) and Leatrix Latency Fix tools above can lower latency on some Windows setups. Both are free third-party tools, so use them at your own discretion.
